Fountain Valley, CA (February 19, 2019) – Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is accepting applications now for the popular turf removal program with rebates starting at $2 per square foot. Depending upon where you live, you might be eligible for an additional incentive on top of that from participating member agencies.
This comes as Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) doubled the rebate for turf removal and adopted other changes to make it easier to participate in the program.
Other changes to the turf replacement program include:
- Increasing the maximum square footage to 5,000 square feet for residential projects and 50,000 square feet for commercial projects, allowing larger properties, such as HOA’s and commercial areas, to participate.
- Removing the requirement that program participants must first remove turf from their front yard.
- Decreasing the number of replacement plants required for areas where grass has been removed to three plants per 100 square feet.
- Synthetic turf is not eligible for the program.
Metropolitan has budgeted $50 million for turf removal this year. While Metropolitan won’t begin accepting applications until April 1st, MWDOC’s Droplet Portal is ready to process applications now, allowing MWDOC customers to get a jump start on their spring landscape transformations – and to ensure Orange County is able to take full advantage of the rebate money available.
